We get asked how we make jewellery all the time so here is an explanation...

First we carve the designs in wax or make them from silver (for the Protea ring below, we tried both ways but went with the metal one). 

We then send them to get cast at a casting company where the wax gets packed with plaster. They heat the plaster which vapourises the wax then the hot metal is poured into the cavity and out comes the first casting which we use as the master. 

A rubber mould is made from the master and the above process repeats for each piece we make. After we get our castings back there are many sanding, drilling, soldering, stone setting and polishing processes and it is all finished.

Thats wicked, love the ring BTW. If it was an amethyst, it would look like an artichoke flower. :)
